Paul Janell Retires

  • Janell, Paul
    Professor Paul Janell
For 37 years, Professor Paul Janell and Northeastern University prospered. He held the Joseph M. Golemme Professorship in Accounting from 1984 and served as the leader of the Accounting Group from 1981 until recently. Paul mentored thousands of students throughout the years, and he enjoyed every minute of the experience. But all good things must come to an end. This past Fall Semester, Paul completed teaching his last accounting course at Northeastern, Introduction to Financial Accounting, one of his favorites.

His accomplishments in and out of the classroom include:

    • Published several articles in well-respected academic journals such as Management Accounting and the International Journal of Accounting
    • Taught almost every accounting course offered at Northeastern and helped develop the undergraduate and graduate curriculum
    • Mentored dozens of faculty members within the Accounting Group
    • Inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Northeast Region of the American Accounting Association. The Northeast Region Hall of Fame was established in 1991 and honors those individuals who have rendered outstanding service to the Northeast Region over the years.

As an avid Red Sox fan, we will miss the hallway discussions about the Red Sox trials and tribulations. He and his wife Mary plan to spend a great deal of time in Florida during the winter, where Paul will be working on his golf game. On behalf of the entire Northeastern University community, we all wish Paul a prosperous and relaxing retirement.
